“To be named one of the best hospitals in the Chicago area is an outstanding achievement,” said Jeff Murphy, executive vice president and chief executive officer at Saint Francis Hospital. “This is further affirmation that Saint Francis Hospital’s physicians, nurses and staff are achieving our vision to be the premier community hospital in the area and one that is known for excellence in quality of care and exceptional customer service.”

According to U.S. News & World Report, Saint Francis Hospital is high-performing in:  Ear, Nose & Throat; Gynecology; Nephrology; Orthopedics; and Urology.

As part of Best Hospitals, the annual rankings in their 22nd year, U.S. News now evaluates hospitals by metropolitan area. Saint Francis Hospital is one of 587 hospitals nationwide that met the standards for strong performance in one or more of U.S. News’ 16 Best Hospitals specialties. Covering 94 metro areas in the U.S., the U.S. News regional hospital rankings complement the national rankings by including hospitals with solid performance nearly at the level of nationally ranked institutions. As a complement to the national rankings, the U.S. News metro rankings give patients and their families more options of hospitals within their community and in their health insurance network.

The rankings cover 16 medical specialties. Hard numbers stand behind the rankings in most specialties—death rates, patient safety, procedure volume and other objective data. Responses to a national survey, in which physicians were asked to name hospitals they consider best in their specialty for the toughest cases, also were factored in.
