An 18 year old Chicago man has been charged with two counts of burglary to motor vehicles in Evanston, said Commander James M. Elliot of the Evanston Police Department.

On July 28, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Evanston Police officers responded to calls that two persons in the 1300 block of Washington Street were checking the door handles of parked cars in the block and causing several car alarms to sound. Police officers observed two persons in dark clothing running from the area. One of the persons was apprehended in a foot chase, the other escaped, said the Commander.

Officers recovered several items that were discarded during the foot chase, and these items were identified as having been stolen from cars in the 1100 block and 1200 block of Maple Avenue, said the Commander.

A possible name of the second person who ran from police officers was obtained but could not be verified, said the Commander.
