Mather LifeWays celebrated the “topping off” of the second tower of The Mather senior living residence on Aug. 2 at 422 Davis St. as the last bucket of concrete was ceremoniously lifted to the roof of the 11-story south tower. The project, which began in April 2010, is on schedule to open later this year with what is planned to be LEED-Gold Certification once complete.

Mather South will contain 99 residential units and will include among its features two indoor pools, a fitness center, a day spa, an art studio, a theatre, a bistro, a roof-top terrace and a garden. The building will be connected by a corridor running under Davis Street to the first Mather building at 450 Davis St. that opened last year.

Mather LifeWays is a non-denominational not-for-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of older adults by creating ways to age well. Over the years the organization has received many awards including U.S. News & World Report’s Best Nursing Homes five-star rankings, Chicago Tribune’s

Mather LifeWays pays full real estate taxes on the Davis Street buildings, and has paid more than $2 million in building permit fees since the project began.
