On Aug. 30, the New School Referendum Committee approved its final report and recommendations to the District 65 School Board. The Committee recommends that a K-8 school be established in the triangular area bounded by the Northshore Channel, Green Bay Road and Church Street, excluding roughly four blocks in the southeastern portion of that area. The Committee is also recommending that the same area be the attendance area for the new school. See map in related story below.
While the details remain unclear, one law firm has advised the District that there may be a way to establish the new school without a referendum, although the manner in which the financing would have to be arranged may not be feasible for the District. The Committee is recommending that the Board consider alternative methods of financing for the school.
The Committee is scheduled to present its report and recommendations to the School Board on Sept. 12, and the Board could be asked to vote on the recommendations as early as Sept. 26.
