The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a special weather statement regarding smoke moving into the area from a large wildfire in northeast Minnesota. Due to northerly winds and the combination sinking air, smoke from the wildfire is being transported into Northern Illinois.
The smoke will likely persist through the afternoon and into the overnight hours before the winds shift and become more westerly. Smoke will likely spread to the Southeast through much or the area. Residents in this area can expect hazy skies and a distinct odor.
If smoke is prevalent enough, it could cause difficulty with breathing and irritate eyes. Those with respiratory problems should be mindful of these conditions.
