On Sept. 12, at approximately 10 a.m., Lane Swanson, 81, was riding northbound on Dodge Avenue when he was involved in a traffic accident with a CTA bus that was also traveling northbound on Dodge Avenue. The accident occurred between Crain Street and Dempster Street, said Jay Parrott, public information officer of the Evanston Police Dempster. Mr. Swanson, who was conscious at the scene, was transported by Evanston Fire Paramedics to St. Francis Hospital. He died as a result of the injuries, said the Commander.
Mr. Swanson was an Evanston resident.
The preliminary investigation conducted by the Evanston Police Traffic Bureau located a witness who observed the Mr. Swanson veer outside the bicycle lane and make contact with the right side of the CTA Bus, said Commander Parrott. Mr. Swanson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. No citations were issued to the CTA bus driver as a result of this investigation, said the Commander.
