As the seasons change, Evanston area residents are invited to cultivate awareness and celebrate the natural world close to home. 

“Finding Refuge Where We Are: Mindfulness and Nature in the City” will offer sitting and walking meditation and a talk by Evanston author and Buddhist teacher Laurie Lawlor, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 2 at the Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd. This day-long event is sponsored by Evanston-based Lakeside Buddha Sangha in the tradition of Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh.

Meditation instruction will be provided. Chairs are available, but participants should bring a sitting cushion or bench. Space is limited; a registration fee of $42 includes a breakfast snack and vegetarian lunch.
