The Chicago Sun Times released its annual listing of the top 100 public elementary schools, the top 100 public middle schools and the top 100 high schools in Illinois on Oct. 31. The Sun Times bases its ranking, not on the percent of students “meeting standards” on the 2011 Illinois Standard Achievement Test or the 2011 Prairie State Achievement Exam, but based on the scale scores of students on those tests. Using a standardization method, the Sun Times creates a school average score that is compared to other schools’ average scores.
On the 2010 ISATs, Orrington ranked 19th, Willard 31st, Bessie Rhodes 79th, and Dewey 99th among elementary schools. Haven ranked 34th and Nichols ranked 94th among middle schools.
On the 2010 PSAEs, Evanston Township High School ranked 92nd in the state.
