The winners of the sixth annual “Paint Evanston’s Plows” contest were announced at the Administration and Public Works Committee Meeting on Nov. 12.

The City of Evanston Streets and Sanitation Division invited all public and private schools in Evanston to paint murals on the blades of its snow plows for its annual Paint the Plows contest. This year’s theme is “Compost the Most,” – Leaves, Grass, Brush. The Division dropped off a snowplow blade and paint kit at each school and encouraged the classes to show school spirit, city spirit, holiday spirit or winter spirit in painting the plow in conjunction with this year’s theme.

Mayor Tisdahl presented five different winners with plaques: one in the “Evanston’s Choice” category, two in the “Best Theme” category and two in the “Mayor’s Choice” category. In addition, the City presented framed certificates to the schools not selected and individual certificates of appreciation to each student that participated.

Winners:

• Evanston’s Choice Award (received the most votes online and by phone from the public) – Orrington Elementary School
Best Theme Award (theme is “Compost the Most” and selected by Streets and Sanitation employees) – Haven Middle School and St. Athanasius School
Mayor’s Choice Award (this year the Mayor selected two plows) – Dawes Elementary School and Chute Middle School.
