On Dec. 24, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Evanston police officers on patrol in the 1100 block of Howard Street observed a youth who they knew was wanted by the Chicago Police Department, said Commander Jay Parrott of the Evanston Police Department. The officers attempted to conduct an investigative stop of the youth who began to flee on foot. Officers saw the youth discard a plastic bag and continue to run onto the Chicago side of Howard Street, still attempting to elude the officers. One officer recovered the discarded bag which contained suspect cannabis, said the Commander.
The second officer continued to pursue the youth on foot and observed him throw what appeared to be a handgun under a dumpster in the 2200 block of west Howard, said the Commander. A short distance later the youth was taken into custody. Officers recovered a .22 caliber handgun that was discarded by the youth, said the Commander.
The youth, 15-years, is a resident of Rogers Park, said the Commander. He was charged with a felony count of unlawful of use of a weapon and misdemeanor counts of possession of cannabis and resisting a police officer.
