Freshmen and sophomores from Evanston Township High School’s chess team won their Dec. 10 tournament at Bloom Trail High School.

At District 65, Lincoln Elementary School sent 36 players to the first Scholastic Chess tournament of the school year, held on Dec. 3 at Walker School. Lincoln fielded the largest number of participants in the tournament. This was the first chess tournament for 19 of Lincoln’s players. In the Pawn Division, second-grader Isaac Muir garnered second place. Third-grader Will O’Brien earned a third-place ribbon in the Knight Division. In the Bishop Division, fifth-grader Quinn Lewis took second place outright with 4 1/2 points–four wins and one draw. Third-grader Drew Klearman earned a first-place ribbon in the Rook Division, and in the Queen/King Division, fifth-grader Liam O’Carroll finished undefeated to place first.
