Four scholar/athletes from Evanston Township High School were honored recently by the Kiwanis Club of Evanston. Since the recognition program was initiated some four years ago, the Club has recognized more than 100 student athletes. This year the Club added the recognition of outstanding ETHS Fine Arts students.

“We hope that public recognition of these students indicates the public’s interest in their programs and their value to the community”, said Club President Jim Wolinski, a former director of Economic Development for the city. He added, “We are known as an arts-loving community in Evanston. With encouragement and recognition, we hope more students will become involved in the [Fine Arts] programs at the high school,” he added.

Each month the student athletes and Athletic Director Chris Livatino attend a Club meeting and receive a Barnes and Noble gift certificate, a certificate acknowledging their honor and a book on leadership. An art, ceramics, theatre or music teacher presents Fine Art students, who receive a gift certificate and art supplies from Dick Blick’s Art Materials and a book on leadership.
