Simon Ribeiro of Evanston has filed papers to run against incumbent Jan Schakowsky in the March 20 primary for the right to be the Democratic candidate in the November general election for Congressman of the 9th Congressional District. Mr. Ribeiro previously made an unsuccessful bid for the office. Rep. Shakowsky has since 1999.
On the Republican side, two persons will face off in the March 20 primary: Timothy Wolfe, an accountant from Arlington Heights, and Susanne Atanus, a retired federal procurement analyst from Des Plaines.
The 9th Congressional District was recently redrawn to include areas that have traditionally been viewed as more Republican. The District continues to hold a portion of Chicago’s lakefront, Lincolnwood, Evanston, Skokie, Niles and Park Ridge, but as a result of the remap has taken on new territory in Kenilworth, Wilmette, Winnetka, Glenview, Northfield, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect and Rolling Meadows.
