Evanston’s North End Mothers’ Club capped its 2011 Centennial year by donating more than $50,000 to youth-focused organizations in Evanston and to the City of Evanston. Community organizations receiving contributions included Evanston Township High School’s After Midnight, Evanston Community Foundation’s Community Kindergarten Readiness, Evanston Fourth of July Association, Evanston School Children’s Clothing Association (ESCCA), McGaw YMCA, Kids and School Supplies (KASS), Child Care Center of Evanston, Cherry Preschool Inclusion Program, Evanston YWCA Women’s Shelter, Infant Welfare Society, Evanston In School Music Association (EISMA), and Mitchell Indian Museum Children’s Programming.

The Club is currently working with representatives from the City of Evanston Department of Parks and Recreation on plans to refurbish a tot lot in one of the City’s parks.

As part of its centennial celebration the club also established a fourth scholarship to be given to an ETHS senior beginning in 2012. Long-standing scholarships awarded by the North End Mothers’ Club include the Senior Girl’s Honor Award, the Joanne Murphy Trautwein Music Award and the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Award. Based on input from ETHS, a second STEM Award will be added.

“We are thrilled to be able to support a fourth scholarship,” said Susan Roche, scholarship chair, “and the focus of the STEM Award is so important for students in today’s environment.”
