The board of directors of the Evanston Public Library announces an annual poetry competition funded by an endowment to the Library in memory of Jo-Anne Hirshfield. The Jo-Anne Hirshfield Memorial Poetry Awards competition is open to all K-8 students attending an Evanston elementary or middle school or residing in Evanston, and to all high school students and adults in the Chicago area. This year’s guest judge will be Laura Purdine Salas.

Awards will be made in four categories: kindergarten through fifth grade, sixth through eighth grade, high school students, and adults. Prizes in each category will be first prize, $100; second, $50; and third, $25. The entry deadline is March 16.
