Two highly melodic recent compositions, “Rainbow Body” by Christopher Theofanidis and “Lux Aeterna” by Morton Lauridsen, will highlight the Evanston Symphony Orchestra’s concert at 2:30 p.m. on March 11 at Pick-Staiger concert hall on the Northwestern University campus.

Conducted by Music Director Lawrence Eckerling, the orchestra will be joined by the Chicago Chamber Choir, prepared by Timothy Adams, in Mr. Lauridsen’s “Lux Aeterna,” a choral song cycle composed in 1997 as a response to the death of the composer’s mother.

Mr. Theofanidis’s 2000 composition “Rainbow Body” refers to the Tibetan Buddhist belief that when an enlightened being dies, the physical body is absorbed directly back into the universe as light.
