In late February, School District 65 submitted a letter of intent (joined in by the District Educators Council, the teachers union) to the Illinois State Board of Education to participate in the Race to the Top Phase 3. The program requires participating school districts to implement a comprehensive set of expectations designed to accelerate and sustain improved student outcomes. After submitting its letter, District 65 administrators learned that the District’s proposed allocation of funds would be $53,699.
Superintendent Hardy Murphy told School Board members on March 26 that it was not practical to participate in the program in light of the allocation and the scope of work required. The Board approved withdrawing from the program.
