The ETHS Debate Team had its best ever overall finish at the IHSA State Debate Tournament on March 15-16. Despite being one of the smaller programs at the tournament, ETHS earned unparalleled success in multiple events.

No other school in the state had students place among the top ten in more than one event; ETHS had students in the top ten in three events, including two state runner-ups.

ETHS sophomores Aaron Clarke and Lewis Herman reached the quarterfinals of Public Forum Debate; senior Erik Baker was the tenth-place speaker in Lincoln-Douglas Debate; sophomore Emmanuel Dallas was the state runner-up in Lincoln-Douglas Debate; and senior Noah Whinston was the state runner-up in Congressional Debate.

“This tournament was an outstanding finish to an outstanding year of competition in Illinois,” said Jeff Hannan, coach for the ETHS Debate Team. “Our two seniors had excellent results, and our sophomores continued to outperform their experience level.” The team now turns its attention toward preparation for the Tournament of Champions and the National Forensic League National Tournament.
