The next “Speaking Up!” community conversation sponsored by Peaceable Cities Evanston will center around Thalia Chaltas’ verse novel “Because I Am Furniture.”
Anke is the oldest of three siblings, and the only one to escape abuse from her father. How she eventually summons the strength of will to resist, and to stand up for her brother and sister is depicted in is a potent exploration of a teen finding her voice to speak the terrifying truth.
The discussion is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the community meeting room of the Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Ave.
Those interested in registering and reserving a copy of the book may call 847-448-8620.
