Northern Illinois University, University Outreach Services will offer eight different reading skills programs for 4 year olds through adults. Tuition and materials fees vary by program level.
The early summer session begins the week of June 11 and a late summer session begins the week of July 19. Programs are offered in Evanston, Wilmette and Northbrook.
Reading programs for younger students build comprehension and students learn the phonics and fluency skills they need to become strong readers. Programs for older students and adults are geared toward improving comprehension and study skills, vocabulary, and speed reading. The skills taught in the classes reinforce the importance of reading for pleasure and developing a lifelong love of books.
These programs have been offered locally through NIU Outreach since 1995. The programs are taught by instructors from the Institute of Reading Development. For more information about the reading programs or to register, call (888) 201-2448, Monday-Thursday 7 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday 7 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
