On May 24, at approx.4:10 p.m., a young girl was struck by an auto at the intersection of Oakton Street. and Barton Avenue.
Upon arrival, police learned from multiple witnesses that a seven-year old girl was reportedly in the crosswalk, crossing the street with her brother, when she was struck by a vehicle allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Oakton Street, said Perry Polinski, media relations for the Evanston Police Department.
Evanston Fire paramedics also responded to the scene, treated the girl for bruises, scrapes, and a possible broken collar bone, and transported her to St.FrancisHospital. The brother was uninjured, said Mr. Polinski.
The driver, a 50-year oldNorthbrook man, was cited for negligent driving and failure to a yield to a pedestrian,said Mr. Polinski.
