On June 1 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Evanston police responded to a call that a robbery had just occurred at the Citgo gas station in the 2400 block of Dempster Street. Once on the scene, police learned that a Palatine male, 18, was approached in the lot of the gas station by two male offenders. One offender punched the victim in the mouth and took his Blackhawk’s hat, said Commander Jay Parrott of the Evanston Police Department.
The victim told police that prior to being struck, one offender accused him of being a member of the Latin King’s street gang. The offenders then fled the area on foot and one subject was located a short distance away. The victim identified the person stopped by police as the person who punched him, took his hat and accused him of being a gang member, said the Commander. That person was charged with robbery, a class 2 felony. The second subject has not been identified or located by police, said the Commander.
The victim denied any gang affiliation.
