Bitter Melon, the trio of Al Day, Randy Lee and Charlie Madigan, will release its CD “Cracks in the Foundation,” at 2 p.m. July 1 at SPACE, 1245 Chicago Ave.

Three years ago the three began practicing together as Bitter Melon, working on the music they planned to include in a project that would address the  question “Why do good people keep getting screwed?”

Sally Craig Christensen joined them as they moved into the studio, and Eamon Madigan became creative and art director for the group.

From a Gettysburg general who visits his dead troops in his dreams and on to more contemporary victims of war, violence, economics, drugs and alcohol, “Cracks in the Foundation” visits a dark part of American social history, mixed with songs about the longing for love, hell fire and finally, redemption.
