This past year the Kiwanis Club of Evanston has expanded its recognition of Evanston Township High School students to include students who excel in the arts. Each student received a Blick’s gift certificate for art supplies, a book on leadership and a certificate commemorating their academic and artistic achievements. The club has recognized more than 120 students from the high school.

This year’s honorees included Kaethe Kaufman, Lafisu Lasisi and James Hanford.

Kaethe is a four-year member of the ETHS band and an accomplished organist.

Lafisu is a bass section leader in the ETHS choir and sings in most of the school’s other choral ensembles. He also has worked diligently on most ETHS theatrical productions as well as serving as lighting director for “Oliver.”

The third honoree is James Hanford, an outstanding violinist and student leader. He served as concertmaster of the ETHS Symphony for two years and has shown initiative by organizing several string quartets and been part of the school’s jazz combo. He has been recognized for several local and statewide musical accomplishments.
