McGaw YMCA CEO Bill Geiger has announced to the board of directors that he has asked Board Chair Kirk Hoopingarner to begin a CEO search process.

“It is with very mixed feelings that we see Bill go and sincerely thank him for his nine years of leadership and service,” Mr. Hoopingarner said.

“As exciting as the future is, especially for the next 6-10 years for the McGaw YMCA and our community, it is time to begin a CEO transition,” Mr. Geiger said. “It’s been tough to come to the conclusion that this longer-range future requires a commitment beyond that which I can make.

“Since I came to the McGaw YMCA in 2003, I’ve loved my work. … This is a truly remarkable community and YMCA with amazing staff, board, volunteers and donor support. In addition, our deep community engagement demonstrates our impact and cause of strengthening our community,” Mr. Geiger added.

Mr. Geiger has agreed to remain CEO to help facilitate a smooth transition of leadership. Meanwhile, the board of directors has formed a CEO Transition Committee that includes current and former McGaw YMCA board and community leaders: Louise Hartman Anderson, Vickie Burke, Kirk Hoopingarner, Dan Israelite, Rosa McAndrew, Robert Reece, Ingrid Stafford and Keith Terry. The Transition Committee will meet on July 16 to determine search criteria and establish a preliminary timeline for the CEO search.

“We are fortunate to have such strong, committed leaders serving on this important committee,” Mr. Hoopingarner said. He emphasized that the committee’s work will reflect as much transparency and objectivity as possible.
