The Evanston Police Department is asking local community groups and neighborhoods to organize for the upcoming annual National Night Out event. This year we will be celebrating our individual block parties on Tuesday, August 7th(6:00 – 9:00 P.M.) along with other cities and states throughout the USA.

What is National Night Out? National Night Out is a unique crime prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). It is designed to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know the neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

How can I get involved? Traditionally, neighborhoods are asked to turn on their front porch lights as a display of unity. We ask that neighborhoods gather together and:

 – Plan a neighborhood block party or cookout
 – Schedule visits from the local police and fire departments
 – Plan a parade or flashlight walk
 – Design a float
 – Sponsor a youth crime & drug-free activity.
Materials, such as banners, balloons, t-shirts, and other prizes can be ordered through the NATW website at
