On Sunday, Aug. 5 at approximately 5:20 p.m., Evanston Police responded to the 800 block of Austin Street after receiving several reports of shots fired, said Officer Perry Polinski, of the Evanston Police Department.
Upon arrival, police officers located a shooting victim at the base of the emergency room ramp which is on the north side of Saint Francis Hospital, 355 Ridge Ave., and obtained a description of the suspects which was broadcast locally. A search of the area yielded negative results, said Office Polinski.
The victim is a 19 year old male resident of Chicago who had been shot twice in the leg. His injuries are reportedly non-life threatening, and he is being treated at Saint Francis Hospital.
The area around the emergency room ramp was closed off as a crime scene while Evanston Police detectives and forensic specialists conducted an investigation of the scene.
Police detectives are investigating the incident as possibly gang related and continue to follow up on leads provided by the victim and witnesses, as well as review and process recovered evidence. At this time no one is in custody, said Officer Polinski.
