On August 19 at approximately 1:10 am, three female Northwestern students were the victims of an armed robbery, said Diane Davis of the Evanston Police Department. The students were walking in the 2000 block of Pratt Court when the incident occurred. The students said two persons approached them and told them to stop, said Officer Davis. One suspect displayed a silver handgun and demanded their valuables. The suspect with the handgun then snatched the purse of one of the students as well as her cell phone and also took the purses of the other two students, said Officer Davis.
The three students were not injured. The offenders then fled westbound on Foster on foot.
Police subsequently learned that a credit card taken from the robbery was used on Aug. 19 at approximately 1:35 a.m. at a 711 convenience store at 3441 Church St. in Skokie. The store video depicts two males entering the store after exiting a light colored vehicle, said Officer Davis. This incident continues to be investigated by police. Arrest Made on Aug. 23
On Aug. 23, an Evanston man, 23, was charged with three counts of armed robbery in connection with the robbery. After video surveillance images were released to the public, the man turned himself into police on Aug. 22. The man was shown on the video surveillance using a credit/debit card taken during the robbery, said Commander Diane Davis of the Evanston Police Department. He was subsequently identified by witnesses in a line up, said the Commander.
The apprehension of the second subject depicted in the video is pending as the Evanston Police Department continues to investigate this incident, said the Commander.
