In an effort to help reduce congestion and increase safety for school children in the vicinity of Lincoln School, the City of Evanston will be implementing a new traffic flow pattern on Forest Avenue from Lee Street to Main Street beginning Tuesday, September 4, 2012.
On Forest Avenue, starting at Lee Street, traffic will only be allowed to go south towards Main Street during student arrival and dismissal times at Lincoln School. Student arrival times are from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and student dismissal times are from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
To keep traffic moving in the same direction, “DO NOT ENTER” signs will be installed on Forest Avenue at Main Street to prohibit northbound traffic during school arrival and dismissal times. The signs are hinged so that they can be closed and the message will not be visible for the remainder of the day. The school crossing guards will open and close the signs when they are present. Please note that the cars parked on the east side of Forest Avenue facing the north can legally exit the area by driving to Lee Street.
The new traffic pattern will commence Tuesday, September 4, 2012, the first day of school. Residents can contact Public Works at 3-1-1 with any questions.
