Updated 9/10/12. On Sept. 1, at approximately 10:20 p.m., a 63 year old Evanston man was hit by a car when crossing Crawford Avenue at Grant Street. The man was transported to Evanston/North Shore University where he succumbed to his injuries the next morning, said Perry Polinski, media relations for the Evanston Police Department.
On Sept. 5, the Evanston Police Department issued a prepared statement that, “At the conclusion of this accident investigation the driver of the auto, a 77 year old male Evanston resident, was issued the following traffic citations: failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and failure to yield-pedestrian.”
Police Chief Eddington told the RoundTable that the man hit by a car was wearing dark clothes and was not in a cross-walk when he was crossing the street. In addition, he said the street is very dark at night. The State’s Attorney’s office did not wish to pursue any additional charges, the Chief said.
