The Evanston Symphony Orchestra will perform a world premiere titled “Evanston Fanfare” at this year’s BackStage Evanston, the sneak peek at Evanston’s upcoming season of the arts. The piece was written especially for the orchestra by the composer Mark Gresham.
ESO is one of 17 performing arts companies that will present a five-minute showcase of their talents between 3 and 6 p.m. on Sept. 30 in the Ethel M. Barber Theater on the Northwestern University campus.
Light Opera Works’ Colette Todd will perform “As Long As He Needs Me” from “Oliver!,” its December production. Fleetwood-Jourdain Theater actors will perform a selection from the 1980 Tony-nominated play “Home,” and The Savoyaires will perform two short duets from their upcoming production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Patience.” Next Theatre Company and Piven Theatre Workshop will present scenes from their current productions of “Iphigenia 2.0” and “Tusk Tusk,” respectively.
Performances by such other returning participants as Actors Gymnasium, Evanston Dance Ensemble, Evanston Symphony Orchestra, The Musical Offering, Music Institute of Chicago, North Shore Choral Society, Northwestern University Theatre Department, Piccolo Theatre, Renovo String Orchestra and Theatre Zarko promise to offer dynamic glimpses into their upcoming seasons.
