First Bank & Trust will celebrate its 17th anniversary Oct. 15-19 with a Customer Appreciation Week.

Current customers visiting any of the bank’s nine locations during lobby hours will be treated to complimentary baked goods and coffee and have the opportunity to enter a drawing for the new iPad Mini, Northwestern University football tickets and other prizes.

New customers who open an account of any kind will also be entered into the prize drawings. Personal bankers will be on hand to assist patrons with the First Bank & Trust Switch Kit, and new Junior Bankers will receive a complimentary evergreen seedling and an eco-friendly piggy bank.

Robert Yohanan, CEO and managing director of First Bank & Trust, said, “Seventeen years ago when we started with a staff of 12, we had a vision for a community bank focused on individual, non-profit and local business customers who value integrity and high-quality service. … We’ve always believed if we did right by the community and our customers, we would succeed.”

Mr. Yohanan added that he felt First Bank & Trust has not only survived but grown in the last few tough economic years because the bank focused on its mission. “Our mission is to serve the individual, small business, medium-sized business and not-for-profits with a high level of service,” he said. “We have never speculated in real estate, so we were untarnished by the collapse of the real estate side [of commerce].”

He also points to the employees. “We always hired the best people we could. All our employees are actively engaged in the communities where we operate,” he said.
“Our growth has been largely due to positive word of mouth from our customers, and we want to recognize them for ‘putting us first’ with this celebration,” Mr. Yohanan said.
