For the 16th year the Kiwanis Club of Evanston partnered with the school children of Evanston and Skokie to support UNICEF with a goal of ridding the world of maternal and neonatal tetanus by 2015.
Neonatal tetanus affects 60,000 babies and 30,000 mothers annually. Symptoms are excruciating, but the disease can be eliminated through vaccines and skilled staff people.
Since the inception of the program in Evanston, children and trick or treating households have raised over $59,000. All money collected goes directly to UNICEF. No monies are used by Kiwanis or UNICEF for administrative expenses.
