Jeffrey Martin Leaphart, a special education teacher at the Multicultural Arts School in Chicago, died of cancer on Nov. 18.

“He was an exceptional teacher of if behavior-disordered kids and had a gift for working with troubled teenage boys,” said his wife of 11 years, Jennifer Leaphart.

His family moved to Evanston when he was 7, and he graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1984.

Lighthouse Beach was “his favorite spot on earth, his power spot in the world. It’s where we got engaged,” said Mrs. Leaphart. The two had two sons, Quinton, 9, and Logan, 8. The family lived in Westchester.

Mr. Leaphart’s mother, Patricia, died earlier this year; his father, Walter, lives in Evanston.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 8 at First United Methodist Church, 516 Church St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leaphart Family fund through Charter OneBank.
