Casey Miller launched his campaign for Evanston Township High School District 202 School Board last week among an overflow crowd of friends, supporters and elected officials.
Emphasizing his public policy credentials honed in senior staff positions in the U.S. House of Representatives, among them Director of the Iran-Contra investigation and counsel to the Speaker of the House, and his deep involvement in the Evanston community as chairman of the City of Evanston Ethics Board and president of the Evanston Baseball & Softball Association, Mr. Miller said he would approach his responsibilities with professionalism and respect.
“We all have a stake in ETHS’ success. Elected officials have an obligation to work through any differences to ensure that student needs are always put first,” said Mr. Miller.
“By any measure – faculty excellence, innovation, student achievement, financial stewardship – ETHS is an exceptional school. As a member of the District 202 School Board, I will work tirelessly to maintain excellence and ensure that all students have the opportunity, resources and support to excel in the 21st century,” Mr. Miller said.
He discussed the need for high educational achievement among all students. “It is not a question of choosing between excellence and equity. We must recognize the differences among our students and seek excellence for all of them.” He also discussed the need for greater collaboration with School District 65 to provide students a seamless educational experience from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Casey Miller received an A.B. Summa Cum Laude from Wabash College and a J.D. from Indiana University. Casey, wife Lee Ann Russo and sons Eli (ETHS Class of 2013) and Ezra (Haven Middle School 7th grade) have lived in Evanston since 1993.
