Theatre Zarko presents Michael Montenegro’s “Fools Tango,” a puppet-and- mask performance that runs March 1-May 11.
“Fools Tango,” a solo performance by Michael Montenegro is a collection of puppet and mask pieces, each unique, some comically dark, with live music by Jack Bennett and Noah Silver-Mathews.
Unusual in their visual poetry, the works use imagery and words in a way that might be described as surreal clowning. Mr. Montenegro experiments with various ways to express the fragility, the tentativeness of a life. The materials of which the puppets are made speak to this temporariness. Live music accompaniment is appropriately somber, yet haunting and fun.
Performances, 90 minutes long and not intended for children, run Fridays and Saturdays March 1 – May 11 (no performance April 13-14) in Studio 213 on the second floor of the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes St. Tickets are $20. Reservations and group rates are available by calling 847-350-9275 or visiting www.theatrezarko.org.
