NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) was recognized as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics, formerly the health-care business of Thomson Reuters.

NorthShore has been named to the list 16 times, more than any hospital in the country during the award’s 20-year history.

The award recognizes hospitals that have effectively confronted challenges in the face of a demanding industry, while still setting national benchmarks for their peers.

The 100 Top Hospitals study evaluated 2,922 short-term, acute care, non-federal U.S. hospitals.  The study used public information to evaluate performance in 10 areas: mortality; medical complications; patient safety; average patient stay; expenses; profitability; patient satisfaction; adherence to clinical standards of care; post-discharge mortality; and readmission rates for acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure and pneumonia.

Some of the proactive, tangible steps NorthShore has taken to display a system-wide culture of excellence include incorporating comprehensive electronic medical record and data informatics systems to help standardize best evidence-based clinical practices into effective and efficient patient care delivery plans. 

In addition, NorthShore became a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network last year – Mayo’s only collaboration of its kind in the Chicago region – further strengthening NorthShore’s commitment to high efficiency and superior care.
