Haven Poets Second in Poetry Slam

The Haven Middle School team of Maria Barragan, Jessica French, Naomi Lichter, Natalya Harp, Phoebe Finamore, Eli Lustig and Elena Hart took second place in one of their bouts in the Louder Than a Bomb poetry slam competition at Columbia College. Haven teacher and slam coach Jenna-Ryann Temkin said, “Working alongside the Young Chicago Authors in Louder Than a Bomb 2013 was a remarkable experience. Haven students collaborated for weeks using performance techniques and literary skills to share their powerful voices with over one hundred schools from across the Chicagoland area.  The Louder Than a Bomb experience helped us illustrate and gave us the opportunity to express ourselves in a safe and nurturing space.”
