Recognizing the destructive impact of violence on communities, and particularly the recent acts of violence in Evanston, the Rotary Club of Evanston Charitable Fund will award several community grants to local organizations in 2013. “Building a More Peaceful Evanston” grants will range from $500 to $2,500.

“It has become clear that the problem of violence in a community is one that can only be solved if the entire community pulls together to focus on solutions,” said Pam Rosenbusch, president of the club.

To be considered for a grant, organizations should demonstrate programming that discourages violence in general including, but not limited to, programs aimed at reducing gang activity, youth bullying, adult violent-crime, or domestic violence. Programs aimed generally at building more peaceful communities through better understanding and greater tolerance will also be considered.

Grant applications and more information available at www.evanstonrotary.org or call 847-475-1283. Applications must be submitted by April 5.
