I strongly support Pat Savage-Williams’ candidacy for the D202 Board of Education.
Pat knows how schools work, from inside and out. She also knows the Evanston community from the inside and out. Pat brings her abundant experience as a professional educator, having served as a school psychologist in D65 for 25 years, and currently as Special Education Coordinator at New Trier High School.
She understands the complexity of decision-making in an educational setting, and I know she will undertake those decisions thoughtfully.
As a parent of two recent ETHS graduates—now attending college—Pat has first-hand knowledge of the strengths of ETHS, as well as the challenges faced by students, particularly students of color. Pat will advocate for excellent educational opportunities, girded by high expectations, for all students.
In addition, Pat is an experienced and skilled facilitator of difficult conversations; she has facilitated conversations about race for the Evanston-North Shore YWCA. She knows how to listen, reflect and bring a group of people to a deeper understanding of complex issues. This will be an invaluable asset to Board discussions.
I urge you to join me and vote for Pat Savage-Williams on April 9th.
