Kevoyn Cox, a senior at Evanston Township High School, died on March 28 as a result of a car accident that occurred shortly after 9 p.m. near the 2900 block of Howard Street.

Officer Veejay Zala, spokesman for the Chicago Police Department, told the RoundTable he could not identify any of the victims in the accident. He said, though, the driver of the car was unresponsive when police arrived on the scene, and that four passengers were injured and transported to neighboring hospitals, all with non-life threatening injuries.  Another person fled the scene on foot.

The car was traveling east on Howard Street at a “high rate of speed” and went off the road onto a parkway and crashed into a tree, said Officer Zala.

Superintendent Eric Witherspoon said several other passengers in the car were ETHS students.  He said ETHS made grief and counseling services available to students on April 1 as the school mourned the loss of Kevoyn. Dr. Witherspoon expressed his sympathies to Kevoyn’s family.

Funeral services for Kevoyn are scheduled for Saturday, April 6, at First Church of God Christian Life Center, 1524 Simpson St. in Evanston. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m.
