Evanston Police, while on patrol in the 1100 block of Howard Street on April 20, stopped a car for a minor traffic violation, said Commander Jay Parrott of the Evanston Police Department. A passenger in the vehicle discarded a bag containing approximately 6 grams of suspected cocaine and attempted to flee on foot from the officers, said the Commander. He was caught a short distance from the vehicle.
Police found a locked safe and a small amount of cannabis in the vehicle belonging to the man who attempted to flee, said the Commander. Police obtained a search warrant for the safe and discovered over 70 bullets and approximately $8,700.
The man, 21 years-old from Chicago, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of cannabis, said the Commander.
