This year the McGaw YMCA Children’s Center celebrated the Week of the Young Child with a theme taken from Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” With lesson plans and activities that took children through the week of April 14-20, the timeline represented the “metamorphosis” of children as they follow along the path of early learning.

All the days in the Week of the Young Child had themes: Friday’s was Silly Hair Day. At mid-morning, all the children in the center, some 200 of them from infants through age 5, metamorphosed into butterflies and paraded around the neighborhood wearing the new wings they designed.
