In celebration of Older Americans Month, Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center (FJCC) and Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre (FJT) are hosting an inaugural “Senior Love Boat Cruise” and a Senior Spelling Bee for residents age 50 and older.

These events will be held on May 25 at Fleetwood-Jourdain Center, 1655 Foster St., which will be transformed into the FJ Paradise Luxury Cruise Liner.

For only $5 (in advance or at the door) participants can live the high life from 4 to 7 p.m., enjoying tropical virgin cocktails and fancy hors d’oervres, dancing to a DJ and having fun at a Vegas-style roulette table.

The Evanston Public Library and Levy Senior Center are collaborating with FJCC and FJT on an inaugural Senior Spelling Bee, which is free to enter. The Spelling Bee begins at 5 p.m., while the cruise is underway. The winner will advance to regional competition (TBA), and the regional winner will move on to the State Championship in Springfield on Aug. 12.

Love Boat Cruise: Advance tickets may be purchased at FJCC in person, by phone at 847-448-8254 (ask for Chris), or at the door.

Senior Spelling Bee: Spelling bee applications will be available at Robert Crown Center, Levy Senior Center, Chandler-Newberger Center, Fleetwood-Jourdain Center and the Main Evanston Public Library.

Questions about the spelling bee should be directed to Leslie Wilson, Levy Senior Center at 847-448-8250. Questions about the cruise should be directed to FJCC at 847-448-8254.
