On April 29 at approximately 7 p.m. Evanston police responded to a call of a robbery in the 300 block of Dodge Ave. The victim, a 53 year old Evanston resident, was standing in James Park while using his cell phone when an offender approached him from behind and snatched a cell phone from his hand, said Commander Jay Parrott of the Evanston Police Department.
The victim along with several other citizens who observed what had happened, chased the offender on foot and notified police. Police officers were able to locate the offender who was hiding in a yard in the 1800 block of Kirk Street, said the Commander. The man, 18 from Evanston, was charged with theft.
“The Evanston Police Department would like to remind people that several incidents similar to this one have occurred over the past several weeks,” said Commander Parrott. “Although this offender has not been linked to other robberies or thefts from persons, people using cell phones should be alert and aware of their surroundings at all times while outside.”
