At the Chicago Headline Club’s annual Lisagor awards dinner held on May 3, RoundTable editor Larry Gavin received an award for his series of articles on School District 65’s proposed teacher evaluation system that includes student growth as a factor. The first article in the series was “District 65 Teachers Oppose New Evaluation System,” published on Nov. 8, 2012. The category was “Education Reporting” in a non-daily newspaper or magazine with a circulation below 20,000.
Evanston-born Tasha Ransom was one of a team of reporters from WPWR-TV who received Lisagor awards from “There is More to Being Gluten-Free” and “Experts Talk About Sexual Assault and How to Defend Yourself.” Others on Ms. Ransom’s teams were Kimbriell Kelly, Jay Sondheimer, Steve Long, Russ Sherman, Bill Barth and Ken Goss.
The Chicago Headline Club is the largest Society of Professional Journalists chapter in the country.
