On May 20, Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program representatives will present the YWCA Evanston/North Shore with a check for $23,500 worth of energy-efficiency work, in recognition of the over 500 Evanston residents who participated in the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program as part of the Community Challenge.
The money earned from the Community Challenge will help the YWCA Evanston/North Shore operate their building at a higher level of energy efficiency, making them a greener neighbor within the community and helping them to save money on energy consumed by their members and staff.
The Community Challenge is a new initiative, offered through the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program, to help foster energy-efficiency awareness and action within local communities. The Challenge began February 1, 2013, and ran through April 30, 2013. During that period, each homeowner or business that took advantage of select offers from the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program earned $50 toward their community’s final prize. The Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program worked with the YWCA Evanston/North Shore, the City of Evanston, and local environmental groups such as Citizen’s Greener Evanston to promote the program.
