Starting the week of June 3 for five weeks, the City of Evanston will be contracting out work on the city parking lot rehabilitation project at Central St. and Stewart Ave. The project involves installation of storm drainage system and reconstruction of the parking lot. As part of this project, sidewalk bump-outs will be constructed on Central St. at Stewart Ave. This bump-out should improve safety for pedestrians crossing Central St. Also, the sidewalks on Central St. and Stewart Ave. around the parking lot are being replaced with porous concrete. A bike shelter will be installed on Stewart St. north of Central St. in the west parkway.
Street sweeping and/or neighborhood parking restrictions will be waived for a one-block radius around the construction zone when temporary daytime “NO PARKING” is in effect. The construction activities will create some inconvenience for abutting businesses and residents, but we will attempt to minimize these problems.
Street and Driveway Access – Traffic will be maintained on Central St. during construction with one travel lane in each direction at all times. Notification will be provided to the businesses in advance of any sidewalk removal and replacement on the south side of Central St.
Parking – Construction zone daytime “NO PARKING” restrictions will be intermittent on Central St. between Stewart Ave. and Hartrey Ave. during construction; evening and night time parking (5 p.m.-7 a.m.) will be available on the street. We kindly ask that businesses/residents use legal street parking spaces on adjacent side streets for your parking needs.
