Starting June 3, for the next ten weeks, contractors for the City of Evanston will be doing water main and sewer replacement work on Davis St. between Benson Ave. and Hinman Ave. This project involves replacement of the existing water main with a new 24” ductile iron pipe.

The combined sewer will be replaced with 24” concrete pipe from Orrington Ave. to Hinman Ave. The full street resurfacing and streetscape work on Davis St. will begin in early August under a different contract. The sewer and water main replacement is part of the city’s continuous program to improve infrastructure throughout the community. There is no direct charge for abutting property owners.

Street sweeping and/or neighborhood parking restrictions will be waived for a one-block radius around the construction zone when temporary daytime “NO PARKING” is in effect. The construction activities will create some inconvenience for abutting businesses and residents, but workers will attempt to minimize these inconveniences.

Street and Driveway Access – Traffic will be maintained on Davis St. during construction with one travel lane in the westbound direction at all times. Notification will be provided to the businesses in advance of any driveway closures.

Parking – Construction zone daytime “NO PARKING” restrictions will be in effect for each block during construction; evening and night time parking (5 p.m. to 7 a.m.) will be available on one side of the street. The city asks that businesses/residents try to use legal street parking spaces on adjacent side streets and parking garages for their parking needs.

Contractor – The contractor for this street improvement program is Bolder Contractor Inc., 440 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield, IL 60015.

City Supervision – The project is under the supervision of the City of Evanston’s Infrastructure & Engineering Division. Sat Nagar, P.E., Senior Engineer, will be directly responsible for all aspects of the construction. A full-time construction inspector will be assisting in the field with any questions or concerns that residents/businesses might have. Questions can be directed to Sat Nagar by calling 3-1-1.
