Beginning in the week of June 17 and continuing for 14 weeks, the City of Evanston will be contracting the water main replacement and street resurfacing CIP I project, which consists of five street segments.

The locations which have been included as part of this contract and in the following sequence of construction are:

  • Lake Street (McDaniel Ave. to Pitner Ave.)
  • McDaniel Avenue (Lake St. to Church St.)
  • Central Street (Sherman Ave. to Sheridan Rd.)
  • Church Street (Chicago Ave. to Hinman Ave.)
  • Wesley Avenue (Simpson St. to Leonard Pl.)

This project includes the replacement of the existing deteriorated water main with new ductile iron pipe as well as replacement of the existing water services. The street resurfacing portion of the project involves curb replacement as needed, roadway base repair, replacement of asphalt surface from curb to curb along with selected sidewalk replacement and driveway aprons.

The water main work and street resurfacing are part of the City’s continuous program to renovate and improve the water distribution system and roadways throughout the community. The funding for the project will be from the City’s Water Fund and Capital Improvement Fund. Construction will begin the week of June 17 on several street segments, with the entire project expected to be fully completed by early September. The actual date when construction is planned for specific streets will be noted on the temporary NO PARKING signs posted 48 hours prior to the start of work.

The construction activities will create some inconvenience for abutting residents, but the city will attempt to minimize these inconveniences. Construction zone daytime NO PARKING restrictions will be intermittent throughout the duration of the project; evening and night time parking (5:00pm to 7:00am) will always be available. Street sweeping and/or neighborhood parking restrictions will be waived for a one-block radius around the construction zone when temporary daytime NO PARKING is in effect.

The contractor for this street improvement program is Glenbrook Excavating & Concrete, Inc. 1350 North Old Rand Road, Wauconda,  IL 60084.

The project is under the supervision of the City’s Engineering & Infrastructure. The Resident Engineer in the field will be Angeleo Alonzo, Jr., who will be directly responsible for all aspects of the construction. If you should have any questions or concerns, please contact the Resident Engineer at 311 (847-448-4311). Questions about the street projects in general should be directed to Sat Nagar, P.E., Senior Engineer at 311. Any sprinkler system should be identified and marked with a flag by the property owner prior to the start of construction to prevent damages to the sprinkler system.
